It's hard to beleive the the sets have been struck. the costumes put away, and the lights are out. The show came and went all too quickly. There is no question that the show was an unqualified success. Thank you to everyone that worked so hard to bring a little bit of Hollywood to Sugar Land Ice & Sports Center. We were extremely lucky to have the chance to enjoy such fabulous performances.

You can still order a DVD copy of the performance. Orders will be accepted through the end of this week. Please drop your order form off in the Sugar Land Ice Proshop or mail it to the address on the form. WE WILL ONLY BE ORDERING THE NUMBER OF DVD's THAT HAVE BEEN PAID FOR. WE WILL NOT BE ORDERING EXTRA COPIES. Orders must be postmarked by Friday, May 22nd, 2009.

A NIGHT AT THE MOVIES THRILLS HOUSTON SKATE ENTHUSIASTS

Texas Gulf Coast Figure Skating Club transformed Sugar Land Ice & Sports Center into a little piece of Hollywood on Saturday, May 16th, as National-level Champion Skaters joined local training skaters to present two performances of A Night At the Movies. The show featured performances by 2009 U.S. National Championships Junior Men’s Silver Medalist, Keegan Messing, 2008 Junior Grand Prix Final Champion, Rebecca Bereswill, and 2009 US Nationals Novice Ladies Pewter Medalist, Nina Jiang.

Routines by local training skaters choreographed to music from the films Moulin Rouge, Mamma Mia, Grease, and Saturday Night Fever brought the house down. Hundreds of local skating enthusiasts, family, and friends sang along and clapped as they enjoyed the rare opportunity to see the results of the many hours of practice, lessons, and bumps and bruises that their skaters endure on a daily basis. The skaters participating in the show ranged in level from Basic Skills to Senior Ladies. Routines were designed and choreographed by local coaches and the entire event was organized by the Texas Gulf Coast Figure Skating Club.

Houston Ice Theatre Skaters (HITS) unveiled its breathtaking new freeskate routine which they will take to Chicago in June for the U.S. National and International Theatre on Ice Competitions. HITS is coached by Shanyn Vallon and Dorothy Kowalczyk. The newly formed Basic Skills sychronized skating team also made its debut performance.

The show was directed by Lisa Lueking-Dahl, a professional skating coach at Sugar Land Ice & Sports Center and former member of a championship synchronized skating teams. Other coaches participating in the show were Shanyn Vallon, Elena Prudsky, Val Prudsky, Kitty Carruthers-Conrad, and BL Wylie.

Texas Gulf Coast Figure Skating Club is one of the Southwest’s largest and most active figure skating clubs. In addition to shows such as this, the Club sponsors the annual Skate Houston and Autumn Fest competitions. The Club's home rink is Sugar Land Ice & Sports Center which is located in Sugar Land, Texas, a suburb of Houston.
